Definition: Betsey Johnson (1875-1936) was an American actress, singer and writer. She became famous for playing the role of Betty Ford in the 1929 film "Gone with the Wind." However, she is perhaps best known for her portrayal of Mrs. Fanny Smith in the Broadway play "The Music Man" (1935). Johnson was also known for her contributions to the entertainment industry and was one of the first female actors to have a major role on Broadway. Betsey Johnson's birth name was Martha Anne Stolper, but she changed it when she married actor Charles W. Johnson. She was born in New York City on April 15, 1875, and died in Los Angeles, California on June 20, 1936.
